WHAT IS IT?
Textes sans frontières is a series of staged readings of contemporary plays. Each edition highlights a country through its contemporary playwriting:
Since 2008, Finland, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Poland, French-speaking Africa, Greece, Norway, Flanders & the Netherlands, the Balkans, and more have been featured.
Initiated by Serge Basso de March and Kulturfabrik in 2004, the project still brings together cultural partners from Luxembourg and the Grand Est region, who work together to present a series of staged readings of contemporary dramatic texts.
The project reflects the commitment of cultural institutions in Luxembourg and the Grand Est region to developing concrete and sustainable initiatives across the Greater Region.
A SIMPLE CONCEPT
To explore contemporary dramatic texts from another culture and bring them to life through staged readings performed by three, four or five actors at most, under the direction of a stage director and without any specific technical requirements.
The idea is to make these readings as flexible and adaptable as possible so they can tour throughout the Greater Region, in the organisers’ venues as well as in media libraries, universities, classrooms and other spaces.
OBJECTIVES
- To promote the discovery and circulation of contemporary international plays
- To discover a culture through the voices of living playwrights
- To bring contemporary writing closer to theatre lovers and curious audiences
- To establish a festival of staged readings across the Greater Region
- To foster new cross-border collaborations and create opportunities for artists from neighbouring regions, who may not yet know one another, to meet and work together
INCLUSIVE READING COMMITTEES
Each year, the texts are selected by three reading committees made up of theatre enthusiasts, curious readers, audience members and literature lovers.

No prerequisites or specific qualifications are required just a love of reading and a desire to share and exchange ideas.
Read between 8 and 12 texts, depending on the year, and take part in selecting four texts for the next edition together with the organisers.
Participate in the different stages of the selection process, including intermediate and/or final committee meetings.
