EMMA.K

Based on Franz Kafka’s Der Process, adapted for children aged 10 and up. Text by Guiseppe Lonobile, Emma K. published by Lansman Edition, translated into Luxembourgish by Josée Klincker.
Following the huge success of the play in Luxembourgish last season, we have decided to revive it in French for the 2022-2023 season.

On her birthday, twelve-year-old Emma K wakes up expecting a party. But her parents have gone on vacation with her little brother, and Emma is left alone with a fly-like man who tells her she is under arrest. She is not told why she is being arrested or what she is accused of. She must wait patiently for her trial and continue to go to school. As her adventures unfold, the young girl discovers that many children have been arrested and that the justice system is very slow and incompetent. Authority, which has nothing positive to offer, is always represented here by animals. The judges are penguins or stupid and nasty rats, and the police are lazy, profiteering flies.

This play is a fable about free will. Emma must discover that she needs to form her own ideas about the world in order to grow up, that other people’s truths are not necessarily the right ones, and that free will is the very foundation of all freedom.
